Carry On Wayward Son

September 13th, 2008

I’m still here, I’ve just been busy (excuses, excuses). I’m arranging some stand tunes for a community college pep band, and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to do some recording. Enjoy!

Welcome to the fun

November 24th, 2007

Welcome to “Fun With The Euphonium” which will feature me playing short arrangements and possibly original compositions on my euphonium, recorded on multiple tracks and mixed together with Cakewalk Music Creator 4. It won’t be a regularly scheduled show; whenever I get the inspiration and time to put something together, I’ll post it. I figure this will be a way to keep me practicing and playing, and a good way to learn more about arranging, composing and recording/mixing, all on my computer–several interests mixed into one.
While searching the Internet for information on euphonium in particular and low brass stuff in general, one of the sites I stumbled across was funderbone.com’s Blog Songs, owned by a trombone player named Wes Funderburk. He has several fun songs performed by him, with occasional special guests, on trombone, recorded multitrack and mixed on his computer. I did something similar in high school, recording myself playing several parts of “In The Mood” (on tape - no digital home recording in 1984!).
I’ve long since lost the tape to a car break-in, but Wes’ site reminded me how much fun it was to do. Mind you, I’m nowhere near as good as Wes or many, many other players out there, but I hope to put together some entertaining bits.
Here’s a sample of what’s to come: I’m a huge Disney fan, and my favorite attraction at Disneyland is Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, so for an experiment I did a short 6-part arrangement of its theme song, “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room.” It turned out okay, but I plan on rerecording it to address some distortion problems and add a countermelody part I wasn’t able to play well at the time. Here it is; let me know what you think!
